A Little History...

 

We are a truly Mexican-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar, and therefore found it interesting to throw in a bit of history about our favourite pastime… Tequila! This wonderful spirit is enjoyed classically as a shot, or also in one of our famous Taco Zulu Cocktails.

 

Tequila is Mexico’s National Drink, and one of the icons synonymous with Mexico. The spirit is distilled from the Blue Agave Plant, with a well- known Mexican legend surrounding this particular plant.

 

The Story tells of a time when a devastating storm swept through Tequila Valley; forcing its habitants to retreat into a cave within the valley. The powerful thunderbolts tore into the nearby Blue Agave plants, burning them for hours. Shortly after the menacing storm, a new rich fragrance fermented the valley. It is then that the habitants discovered that the core of the burnt Agave was the source and well of the spirituous drink, tequila. So they all gave thanks to the gods for this nectar that miraculously transformed peoples personalities… much like it still does to this day!
